Tic-Tac-Toe darts rules explained

Darts Tic-Tac-Toe combines the well-known game with the dartboard: nine fields with numbers, and whoever takes three of them in a row first wins.

  • For 2 players (✕ and ◯)
  • 3 × 3 fields, the bull in the middle
  • 3 marks take a field

How to play

  1. The grid has 3 × 3 fields: the bull in the middle, 8 random numbers from 1 to 20 around it, new every leg.
  2. A field belongs to a player once they have 3 marks on it (single 1, double 2, triple 3; outer bull 1, bull 2). After that nothing counts there for anyone.
  3. Whoever first owns three fields in a row - horizontal, vertical or diagonal - wins the leg.
  4. If all fields are taken without a row of three, whoever owns the most fields wins.

Variants

  • Doubles/triples only: singles don’t count (on the bull only the 50), but one hit takes the field.
  • Numbers as on the board: the fields sit where they are on the dartboard - 20 at the top, 6 right, 3 bottom, 11 left.
  • In the app also alone or with up to 4 players (△, □); on a tie in fields the total marks decide.

Tic-Tac-Toe example

Anna hits T17 - the 17 field is hers with one dart. Ben wants the bull in the middle and needs 3 marks: he hits the bull (2 marks) and the outer bull (1 mark), and the middle is his.

Tic-Tac-Toe tips

  • Take the middle: the bull is part of four possible rows.
  • If your opponent has two in a row, take the third field yourself.
  • A treble takes a field with a single dart - on free fields it’s worth going for the treble.
